Attributes are simply distinctive features, qualities or characteristics
of a person. The attributes of God are the characteristics or qualities
that make God who and what He is.
Essential attributes or qualities which belong to God, apart from any
relationship to His creatures. They are characteristics of God which
make God who He is. These essential attributes can never become attributes
of man, because man would then become God. These attributes are also
spoken of as being the non-moral or incommunicable attributes of God.

alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
2. God is self-existent
a. God exists in and from Himself. He does not owe His existence to
any other. He is the source of all life and His life is inexhaustible.
Because of this quality of God’s being, He is absolutely independent
of all outside Himself.
b. “I AM that I AM” (Ex 3:14; John 8:58)
c. I am Jehovah. That is My Name. (Is 42:8)

3. God is sovereign
a. Sovereign – above or superior to all others; chief; greatest;
supreme in power, rank or authority; independent of, and unlimited by,
any other;
b. As the only uncreated Being, God is perfect in all Hs ways and absolute
in authority.
c. Arthur Pink says it like this: “Being infinitely elevated above
the highest creature, He is the Most High, Lord of heaven and earth.
Subject to none, influenced by none, absolutely independent; God does
as He pleases, only as He pleases always as He pleases. None can thwart
Him, none can hinder Him”
d. Charles Spurgeon says it like this: “There is no attribute
more comforting to His children than that of God’s Sovereignty.
Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe trials, they
believe that Sovereignty has ordained their afflictions, that Sovereignty
overrules them, and that Sovereignty will sanctify them all.”

4. God is immutable
a. Immutable – never changing or varying; unchangeable; stable,
perpetual, constant
b. Arthur Pink: God is perpetually the same: subject to no change in
His being, attributes, or determinations. Therefore God is compared
to a rock, which remains immovable, when the entire ocean surrounding
it is continually in a fluctuating state; even so, though all creatures
are subject to change, God is immutable.
i. Scriptures referring to God as a “rock:” Deut 32:4, 18,
30-31; 1 Sam 2:2; 2 Sam 22:2-3, 32, 47; 23:3; Psalm 18:2, 31, 46, 61:2-4,

f. Num 23:19 God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man,
that He should repent.
i. When we read in Gen 6:6 that “it repented the LORD that he
had made man,” it seems that the Bible contradicts itself; but
in reality we must understand that at times, when speaking of Himself,
God uses language that we are able to understand in our limited mental
faculties. Once again, quoting Arthur Pink, “He describes Himself
as clothed with bodily members, as eyes, ears, hands, etc. He speaks
of Himself as "waking" (Ps. 78:65), as ‘rising early’
(Jer. 7:13); yet He neither slumbers nor sleeps. When He institutes
a change in His dealings with men, He describes His course of conduct
as ‘repenting.’”

gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire. 14 Yea, he sent out his
arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited
them. 15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations
of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of
the breath of thy nostrils.

heart, and knows all things.
h. Heb 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper
than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His
sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom
we must give account.

one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. 30 But
the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make

heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this
